Website Tracks At-Risk Historic Sites

A new internet platform has been launched today to rescue cultural heritage sites on the verge of being irremediably lost, said Global Heritage Fund, a California-based nonprofit organization that focuses on historical preservation.

Called Global Heritage Network (GHN), the platform is the first early warning and threat monitoring system for saving endangered sites in developing countries, where financial resources and expertise are limited.
Combining Google Earth, scientific mapping from Esri, satellite imagery from DigitalGlobe, and social networking, the platform aims to serve as an early warning system for site conservation leaders, archaeologists, local communities, government officials, and volunteers.

"Destruction of our global heritage is a 'silent crisis' happening far away in developing countries. GHN's combined satellite and ground reports clearly show the incredible losses we are facing in just the past 10 years," Jeff Morgan, executive director of Global Heritage Fund, told Discovery News.
Indeed, the GHN database shows a collection of about 500 heritage sites in the developing world.

Each site is identified by a color, which determines the threats scale. Destroyed sites are marked with black spots, “rescue needed” sites are signed in red, while at risk and stable sites are indicated with orange and green marks respectively.

With fall of Hosny Mubarak’s regime in Egypt, numerous affairs of corrupted state officials came out. During decades of reign some ministers have managed to sling billions of dollars on their accounts. Undoubtedly, among the wealthiest is Dr. Zahi Hawass, who ruled for decades in Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Though legally he had to retire three years ago, he succeeded, thanks to friendship with the wife of Hosny Mubarak Suzanne, to preserve his stay at the most powerful position in the domain of archaeology. Finally, last year he succeeded in getting assignment as the State minister for antiquities and lifelong position. At least, that’s what he hoped to be.

With revolution in Egypt it wasn’t possible to hide 1.600 documents that demonstrate that Dr. Zahi Hawass stole precious artifacts, falsified historical findings (making them appear younger than they really are, because they didn’t fit into official history), and fired archeologists, Egyptologists, guides and state officials, who spoke loudly about corruption of his office.

Looking for the Lost City of Atlantis

"First Skyscraper" Built to Fight Solstice Shadow?

In the shadow of the mountain where many believe Satan tempted Christ stands what scientists call the world's oldest skyscraper: the Tower of Jericho.

Built thousands of years before that biblical temptation, the 11,000-year-old tower has long been an archaeological mystery. Now a new study says the structure was linked to the summer solstice—and may have been a symbolic shield against darkness.
For more than 50 years, historians have puzzled over the three-story stone ruin, which is attached to the ancient walls of the town of Jericho in what's now the West Bank.
Eleven thousand years ago Jericho residents had mastered neither agriculture nor the wheel and had only just abandoned a nomadic lifestyle. How could they have built what some see as the world's first monumental public building in one of the world's first cities?
"There is no doubt that the Tower of Jericho has befuddled people for a while," said archaeologist Brian Byrd, who wasn't part of the new study, published in the March issue of the journal Antiquity.
"It still remains a bit of an enigma."

Egypt's Archaeological Sites Stand Unguarded

Concerned archaeologists called today on Egypt’s Prime Minister Essam Sharaf to return police to archaeological sites. The move is required to put an end to illegal excavations and wild looting of storehouses and tombs.

“The desecration of archaeological sites and monuments is not only a huge loss for the people of Egypt on a national, economic, and human level, but is also a loss to all of humanity and to science,” Tarek El Awadi, director of the National Egyptian museum, said in an open letter to Sharaf.
Following the revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak last month, a new unprecedented wave of looting and vandalism took place at various sites in Egypt.

“During the revolution of January 25th, the Egyptian Army protected our heritage sites and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. However, in the last 10 days the army has left these posts because it has other tasks to do,” said Zahi Hawass, who resigned this week as minister of antiquities in protest at the lack of proper action on the looting.
“The group now in charge of the protection of these sites is the Tourist Police, but there are no Tourist Police to do this either,” Hawass said.

India:trovati teschi,decapitazione massa

Trovati in una fossa comune di 471 teschi umani ad Annigeri, cittadina dello Stato di Karnataka (India meridionale). L'ipotesi piu' probabile e' una decapitazione di massa, un episodio peraltro registrato in iscrizioni trovate ad Annigeri e risalenti al XII secolo d.C.

Tutti i reperti, infatti, sono privi della parte mascellare, e sono stati perfettamente allineati ad una profondita' di poco piu' di mezzo metro. Si attendono i risultati di laboratorio per stabilire la datazione dei teschi.

A: “I am leaving because of a variety of important reasons. The first reason is that, during the Revolution of January 25th, the Egyptian Army protected our heritage sites and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. However, in the last 10 days the army has left these posts because it has other tasks to do. The group now in charge of the protection of these sites is the Tourist Police, but there are no Tourist Police to do this either. Therefore, what happens? Egyptian criminals, thieves (you know, in every revolution bad people always appear…), have begun to destroy tombs. They damaged the tomb of Hetep-ka at Saqqara, the tomb of Petah-Shepses at Abu Sir and the tomb of a person called Em-pi at Giza. They attacked a storage magazine at Saqqara and we do not yet know how many artifacts are missing; they opened two storage magazines at Giza; one tomb dated to the 19th Dynasty, the only one in the Delta in fact, was damaged at Ismaïlia; and a store at El-Qantara East has been broken into and looted for antiquities. People have begun to build houses and to excavate at night, everywhere, putting heritage sites all over the country at risk. I had to write a report and I sent it to the Director of UNESCO. That is why at the meeting of the Egyptian cabinet yesterday I had my speech prepared already and I said: “I cannot stay in Egypt and see antiquities being stolen when I cannot do anything to stop it!” This situation is not for me! I have always fought to return stolen artifacts to Egypt. I did fight Ahmed Ezz as well, the man in the Parliament, who was the most powerful man, because he wanted to allow antiquities to be sold in Egypt again.

Pompeii Exhibition Shines Light on Ancient Buried City

A new exhibition from Italy that opened Friday at New York's Discovery Times Square captures the last gasp of the ancient city of Pompeii before it was buried under volcanic ash, mud and rock when Mount Vesuvius erupted 2,000 years ago.

Copies of body casts that researchers made from the skeletal remains of residents buried alive are an eerie part of the exhibit -- a crouching man covers his mouth, a chained dog appears contorted, a family of four huddle together.

A short film recreates what Pompeians might have felt as they tried to escape. The museum's floor vibrates as the volcano's furor grows; a movie screen rises and a double door opens to reveal a funereal scene of 20 "bodies" hardened in poses from their final moments.
Pompeii existed for 700 years before it was snuffed out in just 24 hours.

"Pompeii The Exhibit: Life and Death in the Shadow of Vesuvius" also chronicles life in the vibrant mercantile city before and after Vesuvius erupted. Colorful room and garden frescoes, mosaic floors, pottery and gold jewelry are among the artifacts featured.

Egyptology: Zahi Hawass confirms resignation

Recommend Egypt's chief antiquities official, Zahi Hawass, has confirmed his resignation late this week from his post, amid political turmoil and the looting of antiquities. Conservation work at the Sphinx -- Behind Hawass, you can see the current conservation work on the Great Sphinx.

Hawass is well-known for his role in Egyptological investigations and overseas exhibitions, appearing in documentaries and recently concluding an agreement with New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art to return artifacts to his country. He had headed Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities for about a decade.

Cracked Mayan Code May Point to 8 Tons of Lost Treasure

It's a treasure hunt even Indiana Jones would be proud of.

Buried beneath a lake in Guatamala sits a fortune in lost treasure -- Mayan gold to be precise -- and a group of German archaeologists has just set off to find it. Their only guidance, a freshly decoded ancient book containing a map to the treasure.

It sounds like a movie, but it's very much real, reported FoxNewsLatino. Joachim Rittsteig, an expert in Mayan writing who is heading up the mission to Guatemala's Lake Izabal, the site reported. Rittsteig claims to have cracked the famous Dresden Codex, a pre-Columbian Maya book possibly from the 11th century, and discovered in its pages specific information that leads to a treasure in the lake.

Archaeologists Find 11,500-Year-Old Grave With Cremated 3-Year-Old

An archaeological dig in Alaska has uncovered the oldest human remains ever found in Arctic or Subarctic North America – the cremated skeleton of a 3-year-old.

The chlid's burned bone fragments were found in a fire pit in the remains of an ancient house near the Tanana River in central Alaska. Researchers date the cremation to 11,500 years ago. After the child's body was burned, researchers report in the Feb. 25 issue of the journal Science, the house and hearth were buried and abandoned.
"The fact that the child was cremated within the center of the house … this was an important member of society," said study author Ben Potter, an archaeologist at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

Statue of Akhenaton, Other Stolen Egyptian Antiquities Recovered

A Cairo teenager found a priceless statue of Pharaoh Akhenaton near a garbage bin after it was stolen from the Egyptian Museum during anti-regime protests, Egypt's antiquities chief said Thursday.

The museum's world-renowned collection was burgled and several artifacts went missing last month, including statues of King Tutankhamun and Pharaoh Akhenaton -- and many of the looted antiquities have been returned or discovered, the Supreme Council of Antiquities said.
In addition to the Akhentaon statute, the missing Heart Scarab of Yuya was recovered near the museum gardens, where wooden fragments belonging to a damaged coffin were also found. A search team found one of the eleven missing shabtis of Yuya and Thuya underneath a showcase. Fragments belonging to the statue of Tutankhamun being carried by the goddess Menkaret have been found; all the located fragments belong to the figure of Menkaret.

Easter Island study enters new phase

A team of archaeologists studying the famous statues dotting the landscape of a tiny Pacific island have been awarded two thirds of a million pounds by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

The AHRC award of just over £640,000 will allow project directors Professor Sue Hamilton, from University College London and Dr. Colin Richards from The University of Manchester, to continue their groundbreaking study of Easter Island.

AHRC Principal Investigator Professor Hamilton and Dr. Richards will continue their task of unravelling the mystery of the stone statues - or moai - dotted around the coastline of the island.
They lead the first British archaeological team working on the island for 90 years.
The project aims to understand the organization and meaning of the moai, quarries, transport roads, and stone platforms in an island-wide programme of landscape study, survey and excavation.

King Tut Statues Stolen From Egypt Museum

Sad news was announced about some of the treasures kept at the Egyptian National Museum just after Hosni Mubarak stepped down as Egypt's president.

According to Zahi Hawass, who under Mubarak was recently named minister of antiquities, some 18 objects went missing following a break-in at the museum on Jan. 28, 2011.
"The staff of the database department at the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, have given me their report on the inventory of objects at the museum following the break in. Sadly, they have discovered objects are missing from the museum," Hawass wrote in his blog.

Google Earth Reveals Lost Tombs in Saudi Arabian Desert

Little is known about the archaeology of Saudi Arabia, as the government has historically forbid aerial photographs of the landscape and religious sensitivities have made access tricky. But Google Earth is changing that. Satellite images available via the Web-based 3-D map program show that large portions of the country hold a wealth of archaeological remains that predate Islam and may be several thousand years old.

Researchers recently discovered nearly 2,000 tombs by peering through one high-resolution "window" at a rocky lava field east of the city of Jeddah — all without having to set foot in the Saudi desert.
Judging by the sheer number of stone ruins identified in Saudi Arabia, as well as in other research in Jordan, there may well be a million such sites scattered throughout the Arabian Peninsula, said David Kennedy, an archaeologist at the University of Western Australia who led the study.

Ancient Mesoamerican sculpture uncovered in Southern Mexico

With one arm raised and a determined scowl, the figure looks ready to march right off his carved tablet and into the history books. If only we knew who he was - corn god? Tribal chief? Sacred priest?

"It's beautiful and was obviously very important," says University of Wisconsin-Madison archaeologist John Hodgson of the newly discovered stone monument. "But we will probably never know who he was or what the sculpture means in its entirety."

The man is the central figure on a stone monument discovered in 2009 at a site called Ojo de Agua in far southern Mexico in the state of Chiapas along the Pacific coast. Today is a new day, but there are still marches in the streets of Cairo. I am personally very sad for my country. I cannot believe the devastation that has happened in the streets, and that so much has stopped in the last 11 days. We have lost so much, and I do not understand how this could be. It is like a dream for me. I have come into this new position at a very critical time, but the most important thing about this is that for the first time in history Egypt has a Ministry of Antiquities. The reason that this has never happened before was because archaeology was considered a minor thing. Previously, the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) had fallen under the ministries of education, tourism, and, most recently, culture. Now, I am happy to say that there is a Ministry of Antiquities that is separate from the Ministry of Culture.

Israeli archaeologists unveiled on Wednesday the remnants of a newly discovered Byzantine-era church they suspect is concealing the tomb of the biblical prophet Zechariah.

The church, with intricate and well-preserved mosaic floors, was discovered on the slopes of the Judaean hills at Horbat Midras, the site of a Jewish community in Roman times, southwest of Jerusalem.

Secrets in Stone: Rare Archaeological Find in Norway

It looked to be a routine excavation of what was thought to be a burial mound. But beneath the mound, archaeologists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology's Museum of Natural History and Archaeology found something more: unusual Bronze Age petroglyphs. "We believe these are very special in a Norwegian context," says museum researcher and project manager Anne Haug.

The excavation in Stjørdal, just north of Trondheim, was necessitated by the expansion of a gravel pit. Given that project archaeologists didn't anticipate that the dig would be very complicated, the museum researchers dedicated just three weeks to the effort.

On Friday, January 28, 2011, when the protest marches began in Cairo, I heard that a curfew had been issued that started at 6.00pm on Friday evening until 7.00am on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, on that day the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, was not well guarded. About a thousand people began to jump over the wall on the eastern side of the museum into the courtyard. On the western side of the museum, we recently finished something I was very proud of, a beautiful gift shop, restaurant and cafeteria. The people entered the gift shop and stole all the jewellery and escaped; they thought the shop was the museum, thank God! However, ten people entered the museum when they found the fire exit stairs located at the back of it.

As every one knows, the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, is naturally lit and due to the architectural style of it, there are glass windows on its roof. The criminals broke the glass windows and used ropes to get inside, there is a distance of four metres from the ceiling to the ground of the museum. The ten people broke in when I was at home and, although I desperately wanted to go to the museum, I could not leave my house due to the curfew. In the morning, as soon as I woke up, I went directly there. When I arrived, I found out that, the night before, three tourist police officers had stayed there overnight because they were not able to get out before the curfew was put in place. These officers, and many young Egyptians who were also there, helped to stop more people from entering the museum. Thankfully, at 10.00pm on Friday night, the army arrived at the museum and gave additional security assistance.

A German foundation rejected Monday an Egyptian request to return the 3,400-year-old bust of Queen Nefertiti, a sculpture which draws over one million viewers annually to a Berlin museum.

Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) sent the request to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, which runs the Neues Museum in the German capital where the bust is kept.
"The foundation's position on the return of Nefertiti remains unchanged," foundation president Professor Hermann Parzinger said in a statement. "She is and remains the ambassador of Egypt in Berlin."
Egypt's antiquities chief, Zahi Hawass, appealed to the foundation seeking the return of the bust, famed for its almond-shaped eyes and swan-like neck. Old dog, new tricks: Study IDs 9,400-year-old mutt

University of Maine graduate student Samuel Belknap III came across the fragment while analyzing a dried-out sample of human waste unearthed in southwest Texas in the 1970s. A carbon-dating test put the age of the bone at 9,400 years, and a DNA analysis confirmed it came from a dog - not a wolf, coyote or fox, Belknap said.

Because it was found deep inside a pile of human excrement and was the characteristic orange-brown color that bone turns when it has passed through the digestive tract, the fragment provides the earliest direct evidence that dogs - besides being used for company, security and hunting - were eaten by humans and may even have been bred as a food source, he said.
Belknap wasn't researching dogs when he found the bone. Rather, he was looking into the diet and nutrition of the people who lived in the Lower Pecos region of Texas between 1,000 and 10,000 years ago.

Brewery from 500 BC reveals its secrets

Dr Hans-Peter Stika, an archaeobotanist from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany has been studying the remains of an early Iron Age Celtic settlement at Eberdingen-Hochdorf dating from around 500 BC, in particular the six oblong ditches dug for the process of making barley malt for beer. The excavated ditches contained thousands of grains of charred barley, which Dr Stika believes are the remains of the production of high quality barley malt needed for making beer.

Dr Stika reproduced several methods for making beer that the Celtic peoples in the Iron Age might have used, and concluded that the ditches were used to soak barley grains until they sprouted. Fires were then lit at either end of the ditch to slowly dry the sprouted grains and give the malt produced a dark color and smoky flavor. The slow drying would have stimulated the growth of bacteria that caused the release of lactic acid, which added sourness to the end product.

Egyptian archaeologists have unearthed six missing pieces from a 3,400-year-old colossal double statue of King Tut's grandparents, the Supreme Council of Antiquities announced Sunday.

Belonging to the statues of King Amenhotep III and his wife Queen Tiye, the fragments were found at the pharaoh’s mortuary temple in Luxor during work to lower the ground water on the west bank of the Nile.

Earliest known winery found in Armenian cave

A vat to press the grapes, fermentation jars and even a cup and drinking bowl dating to about 6,000 years ago were discovered in the cave complex by an international team of researchers.

While older evidence of wine drinking has been found, this is the earliest example of complete wine production, according to Gregory Areshian of the University of California, Los Angeles, co-director of the excavation.

Ancient Egyptian Priests' Names Preserved in Pottery

Broken pieces of clay pottery have revealed the names of dozens of Egyptian priests who served at the temple of a crocodile god, Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) announced.

Engraved with text dating back to the Roman period, the small potsherds have been found by Italian archaeologists on the west side of the temple dedicated to the crocodile god Soknopaios in Soknopaiou Nesos, an Egyptian village in the Fayoum oasis.

Called ostraca from the Greek word ostrakon (meaning "shell") the inscribed pot fragments “have been very helpful in illuminating the religious practices and the prosopography of Greco-Roman Egypt," the SCA said in a statement.

MISTERY OF THE RAVNE TUNNELS –SCIENTIFIC REPORT

This time the scientific expedition to Ravne’s maze included just three members: dr. Valeria Hocza, hungarian doctor, as scientific assistant; mr. A Tel Aviv University team excavating a cave in central Israel said Monday they found teeth about 400,000 years old. The earliest Homo sapiens remains found until now are half that old.

Archaeologist Avi Gopher said Monday further research is needed to solidify the claim. If it does, he says, "this changes the whole picture of evolution."

New research has uncovered a forgotten chapter in the history of the Bible, offering a rare glimpse of Byzantine Jewish life and culture.

The study by Cambridge University researchers suggests that, contrary to long-accepted views, Jews continued to use a Greek version of the Bible in synagogues for centuries longer than previously thought. In some places, the practice continued almost until living memory.

The key to the new discovery lay in manuscripts, some of them mere fragments, discovered in an old synagogue in Egypt and brought to Cambridge at the end of the 19th century. The so-called Cairo Genizah manuscripts have been housed ever since in Cambridge University Library.

Peru succeeds in getting 4,000 objects back home!

Between 1911 and 1915, Hiram Bingham III conducted excavations at Machu Picchu in Peru in conjunction with Yale University. Over the course of Bingham’s work, he uncovered more than 4,000 objects, which he requested to take back to Yale for study and temporary exhibition. In the original contract Bingham agreed to give back the objects after 18 months. However, the agreement was never honored and the artifacts have remained in the Peabody Museum at Yale ever since.

Both Peru and Yale University have been in negotiations over the past few years to return the objects back to their rightful home in Peru. Due to Yale’s resistance however, Peru filed a lawsuit against Yale citing their violation of Peruvian law by removing the objects without special permission from the Peruvian government and their refusal to give the objects back. Unfortunately, after the lawsuit and the ensuing legal red tape, no agreement had been reached between the two parties as of 2010.

Forse Stonehenge custodisce un segreto in meno. Una nuova teoria, suffragata da prove pratiche, sembra spiegare come sia stato possibile ai nostri antenati del neolitico trasportare pietre che pesano fino a 50 tonnellate. Ad elaborarla, come riferisce il Daily Mail, un ingegnere, ex presentatore della BBC: secondo Garry Lavin chi ha edificato Stonehenge si è servito di una sorta di grosso cesto di vimini, una specie di pneumatico preistorico, dentro cui per far rotolare gli enormi massi (alcuni provengono da colline a circa 30 km dal sito, altri addirittura dal Galles, a circa 200 km). Over 500 volunteers and 45 archaeologists from 30 countries and 6 continents were working together in Southern Europe from June 2010 to the beginning of October 2010. Prime minister visited them several times, ministers, ambassadors, artists, tens of thousands tourists.

Volunteers were given the opportunity to take part in exciting new project and actually discover archaeological artifacts that will forever change mainstream view of human history. Of all places, they were working in tiny country of Bosnia.

Si fanno corsi e seminari, si leggono libri e riviste, alla caccia di qualche indizio, di quale metodo, forse di qualche idea interessante, liberatoria e appagante, troppo spesso dimenticandosi, strada facendo, della domanda originale, ovvero delle intenzioni e delle necessità originali che hanno spinto verso una certa ricerca. Che è prima di tutto, in fondo, una ricerca di senso.
Si collezionano libri, corsi e magari – dato che tutto sommato può sembrare facile – se si ha un po’ di carisma personale ci si improvvisa pure divulgatori: coi tempi che corrono è il business del momento nel quale eventualmente riciclarsi; a volte basta saper comunicare e spararle grosse. Desolante vero?
Quando ci si accorge del caos nel quale si è finiti spesso sorge naturale un certo rifiuto, una sorta di cinismo, oppure si finisce in qualche rassicurante, quanto demenziale, setta, ai piedi del prontissimo “guru”.
Insomma, si passa da un’illusione all’altra, da una suggestione a un’altra, da un sogno a un altro, che non di rado si trasforma in incubo. Ben inteso che i riferimenti, i maestri, i guaritori, i relatori di ogni sorta possono essere tutti validi stimoli: punti di riferimento formativi e fonte di ispirazione, ma vanno ineludibilmente trascesi e lasciati alle nostre spalle; e saranno loro stessi – se autentici - ad applaudire la nostra scelta, il nostro passo avanti, la nostra liberazione anche da loro e dal loro insegnamento (che è pur sempre il “loro”, ma non il nostro! Non il tuo!). Le scuole, proprio in quanto tali, vanno lasciate, altrimenti non sono scuole ma sette, a meno che non si condivida un progetto specifico, ma attenzione: che sia sempre anche il vostro progetto. Che si conservi proprio per quel progetto in cui credevate e credete ancora, e che non diventi l’ennesimo nascondiglio; l’ennesimo imbroglio. Non ci sono giustificazioni: mezzi sbagliati non possono condurre a fini giusti. La vittoria spirituale la si misura non dall'aver raggiunto un fine, bensì dai mezzi usati.
Quando finalmente nasce prepotente la necessità di fare ordine in tutto questo e quindi dentro sé stessi, solo allora si può ritrovare il famoso bandolo della matassa.
Tuttavia, io credo che prima di farsi il trip di vivere una vita “spirituale” o esplorare temi alternativi, culture e tecniche esotiche ed esperienze più o meno esoteriche, si debba capire:
1) di che cosa si sta parlando;
2) che cosa si vuole veramente;
3) a quale scopo.
In pratica bisogna chiarire a sé stessi a quale esigenza si sta rispondendo, quanto gioca l’ego personale, rendersi davvero conto di ciò di cui si sta parlando e in fin dei conti dove si vuole andare a parare. Senza perdersi nei nomi e nelle etichette tipo “percorso interiore”, “ricerca spirituale”, “risveglio di coscienza” ed altre cose vaghe, di cosa stiamo parlando? Che cosa vogliamo? Cosa vuoi veramente ora?
Io credo che alla fin fine lo scopo (il mio scopo) sia quello di essere felici in una realtà felice, alla quale a dare il senso più vero, ampio e bello possibile. Credo che la chiave di tale benessere, della felicità vera, sia la Consapevolezza, che è vera realizzazione, conoscenza, saggezza e amore.
Tutto questo nella propria vita ordinaria, considerando e comprendendo tutte le circostanze nelle quali ci si trova e che, per qualche ragione, siamo chiamati a vivere.
Per tale realizzazione possiamo adoperarci in mille modi, senza bisogno di tirare in ballo il magico e l’esoterico. Io credo che la spiritualità sia qualcosa di estremamente laico e pratico. E’ una questione etica: di essere e non di avere, di come vivere, di come fare, piuttosto che di fare qualcosa piuttosto che qualcos’altro. Non credo che renda automaticamente spirituali meditare, parlare con l’aldilà o guarire le persone.
Forse siamo già spirituali, e se vogliamo un po’ magici, nel momento in cui ci diamo da fare con spirito costruttivo e intelligente, animato da buon senso, buona volontà e amore sincero. Si vive, si lavora, si porta avanti una famiglia, si educano dei figli, oppure nulla di tutto questo, ma comunque ci si adopera per creare le condizioni esistenziali migliori per sé e per la realtà di cui si è parte e che noi stessi, più o meno inconsciamente, creiamo per lo sviluppo della nostra coscienza. E questo sono già in tanti a farlo, pur con tutti i limiti e i condizionamenti di questa nostra società malata.
Siamo spirituali quando non siamo egoisti.
Da tutto questo può tuttavia nascere un’esigenza ancora diversa? Una sete di maggiore conoscenza e consapevolezza? Di una più alta “guarigione” ed “evoluzione”? Di una più piena “realizzazione”?
Di solito – dato che siamo dei testoni - questa spinta nasce da un profondo disagio (uno shock, un trauma, un dolore, una crisi, una malattia, una nevrosi ecc…), o anche da un disagio più sottile e generale di vita per il quale cerchiamo una cura, ma anche risposte a domande che quella data situazione ha fatto nascere nuove dentro di noi.
Ecco allora la necessità di un percorso. Un percorso che in primo luogo non può che essere terapeutico: per capire chi siamo davvero e guarire dai nostri difetti di percezione e di identificazione che – secondo le discipline olistiche e tradizionali - stanno a monte di tutte le malattie successive.
Può nascere un anelito di scoperta, di conoscenza, di maggior coscienza di ciò che si è e della realtà che si vive. Sì, come dicevamo, è una questione etica, di felicità, di benessere reale, ma sta diventando – finalmente - sempre più una questione di conoscenza vera, di consapevolezza.
Ecco allora che la questione da culturale, etica o terapeutica si fa esistenziale, oppure, se vogliamo, terapeutica in senso più radicale: nasce la ricerca di un senso più profondo e quindi di una consapevolezza non solo della propria identità ma anche della propria direzione, ed eventualmente della direzione globale del nostro essere umani, del nostro essere “umanità”.
Si può entrare dunque in un discorso più propriamente legato alla spiritualità come ricerca di identità e soprattutto come più profonda ricerca di saggezza, per riversare i termini della propria coscienza, progressivamente risvegliata, nelle scelte quotidiane e di vita. Niente di più concreto e di pragmatico!
Con la meditazione, ad esempio, che trascende pure la terapia, si entra in uno stato di comunione, in un flusso che ci porta naturalmente in una via di felicità, di comprensione, di evoluzione. In virtù di uno stato dell’essere progressivamente realizzato la nostra quotidianità si fa straordinaria nella sua semplicità e nelle sue vicissitudini così terrene, problematiche, faticose eppure riscoperte nel loro sapore in quanto Vita, nel loro valore intrinseco.
Si comincia ad entrare nel merito dei meccanismi della natura, della vita, delle cause e degli effetti; in virtù di una ritrovata armonia ci si relaziona in forma più attiva con le leggi e le forze dell’esistenza, dentro e fuori di sé. Si accede a nuovi orizzonti del Sé, o meglio dell’Essere e del possibile.
Ecco che siamo raggiunti dall’idea di quello che io non saprei come altrimenti definire se non magia: lasciare che la realtà attorno a noi si accordi armonicamente con il nostro stato interiore. Agire attraverso il non-agire sul reale e sulla natura delle cose.
E’ il “potere” in senso sciamanico. Questa non è più (solo) una via meta-terapeutica e di ricerca etica, meditativa o mistica, ma si trasforma in via magica, ovvero sacra: si entra in relazione con il “sacro”, cioè con le proiezioni della realtà come manifestazione dell’Assoluto, che intendiamo riscoprire in quanto tali, partendo da noi stessi.
Per questo distinguete quando si dice io voglio fare un corso per stare bene e risolvere le mie nevrosi o per diventare ricco e socialmente realizzato, da quando intendo seguire una via di Conoscenza. Distinguete se volete rimanere su un discorso culturale e magari dotarvi di tecniche pronte all’uso (un po’ per voi stessi, un po’ per “aiutare gli altri”, un po’ per lenire le afflizioni dell’ego), da quando invece intendete esplorare il senso magico della Vita. Sono due piani completamente diversi: sul primo si cerca di rendere meno goffa la propria recita; sull’altro ci si occupa di regìa.

Infine, siamo lieti di poter annunciare che tra Carlo Dorofatti e Armando Mei è ufficialmente nato un primo progetto di collaborazione che si articolerà su diverse direttrici tutte volte alla divulgazione scientifica ed esoterica.

BOSNIAN PYRAMID PROJECT: FOUR MESSAGES FOR MALAYSIA

The Founder of the "Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun" Foundation dr. sci. Sam Semir Osmanagich visited Malaysia in a period November 7th - November 15th, 2009. During his stay in the state of Sarawak dr. Osmanagich participated in Malaysian Global Business Forum dedicated to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Participants from the Bosnian side were the President of the Country dr. Haris Siljadzic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sven Alkalaj, Minister of Defense dr. Selmo Cikotic, Rector of University of Sarajevo dr. Faruk Caklovica and several dozens of Bosnian business leaders.

Final day of the Forum both delegations met at the closed-door session. Malaysian delegation was lead by dr. Mahathir Mohamad, ex-prime minister of Malaysia and most distinguished statesman in Asia. Dr. Osmanagich had a speech in front of both delegations and said:

"It's been three and half year since I hosted the visit of H.E. dr. Mahathir. In the meantime, we've spent 200.000 hours in archaeological digging, lab sample analysis, radiocarbon dating, we had First International Scientific Conference about the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids and published a Conference Proceedings with 50 scientific articles about the Bosnian pyramids phenomenon. Those activities are getting us closer to five profound conclusions:

First European pyramids have been discovered in tiny Bosnia
These pyramids are the biggest on the Planet
Bosnian pyramids are most probably the oldest in the world
The most ancient cemented concrete blocks have been discovered in pyramid walls
There exist the most extensive tunnel network under the pyramids
These conclusions require us to re-write our understanding of ancient European and world history. Time has come for positive news from Bosnia-Herzegovina.

I have four messages for students, businessmen and media from Malaysia:

I invite Malaysian and regional philanthropists to support and donate to the investigation of the Bosnian Pyramids project;
I'd like to see Malaysian businessmen invest in touristic infrastructure in the middle Bosnia
I wish Malaysian tour-operators and travel agencies start bringing more Malaysian tourists to Bosnia
I invite students from Malaysia and those who feel young in their hearts to join us in International Summer Camp for Volunteers next summer in Visoko."
Dr. Osmanagich presented dr. Mahathir the ICBP Proceedings during the closed door session.

Two Universities from Malaysia hosted the lectures of Dr. Osmanagich about the "Pyramids in the world and Bosnia". Swinburne University, Sarawak campus, with over 350 students and professors were amazed with the fact that pyramids were built all over the world and, at the same time, that the biggest pyramidal structures are located in Bosnia.

Leading Malaysian University in design Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology in Kuala Lumpur had a magnificent reception for the discoverer of the Bosnian pyramids. Over 300 students and professors were at his lecture. President and Founder of the University of 44,000 students spread out in three continents dr. Lim Kok Wing shared the idea for the city of the future that he's been designing for the Malaysian government. The city is to consist of the glass pyramids. Dr. Wing offered dr. Osmanagich position of scientific advisor at Faculty of Architecture.

Forest clearances sealed ancient civilisation's downfall

Archaeologists examining the remains of the Nasca, who once flourished in the valleys of south coastal Peru, have uncovered a sequence of human-induced events which led to their "catastrophic" collapse around 500 AD.

The Nasca are probably best known for the famous "Nazca Lines", giant geoglyphs which they left etched into the surface of the vast, empty desert plain that lies between the Peruvian towns of Nazca and Palpa.

The depictions have spawned various wild theories, including that they were created by aliens. Most scholars now believe that they were sacred pathways which Nasca people followed during the course of their ancient rituals.

Other aspects of Nasca history and culture remain less clearly understood, however. In particular, experts have struggled to explain why a society which clearly prospered during the first half of the first Millennium AD then collapsed into a bloody resource war and eventually vanished.

Some have argued that a mega-El Niño, which hit the region at around that time, may have been the cause. Writing in the journal Latin American Antiquity, however, a team of researchers led by Dr. David Beresford-Jones from the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at Cambridge University, suggest that the Nasca inadvertently wrought their own demise.

Using plant remains gathered in the lower Ica Valley, the team found evidence that over the course of many generations, the Nasca cleared areas of forest to make way for their own agriculture. Studies of pollen samples taken by co-researcher Alex Chepstow-Lusty, of the French Institute of Andean Studies in Lima, showed that the huarango tree, which once covered what is now a desert area, was gradually replaced by crops such as cotton and maize.

As the paper explains, however, the huarango was more than just a tree - it was a crucial part of the desert's fragile ecosystem, which enhanced soil fertility and moisture and helped to hold the Nasca's narrow, vulnerable irrigation channels in place.

Eventually, they cut down so many trees that they reached a tipping point at which the arid ecosystem was irreversibly damaged. The authors do not dispute that a major, El Niño-style event then occurred - finding hard evidence for this for the first time. But they also find that the impact of this flood would have been far less devastating had the forests which protected the delicate desert ecology still been there.
